28th Annual Garden Symposium
The Biedenharn Museum & Gardens is pleased to welcome a distinguished panel of guests for the 28th Annual Biedenharn Garden Symposium on Apr. 6 from 9am to 3pm. Speakers include Gary Bachman, Jill Forrester, Elizabeth Prine and Kayla Jobe.
Gary Bachman’s talk entitled, “A Conversation with the Southern Gardener,” will share ideas and plants for the landscape. Dr. Bachman is a research professor of horticulture for Mississippi State University; co-author of Mississippi Medallion Winners; and the Host and Executive Producer of Southern Gardening, a weekly news segment with gardening tips and recommendations. Jill Forrester, successful farmer and restauranteur from Arkansas Delta, will discuss the history of her farm; sustainable farming; and flower arranging with fresh flowers from the field. Forrester and her husband operate a fourth generation family farm, Whitton Farms, which focuses on sustainable farming practices, with a specialty in produce and fresh cut flowers. The couple also own a successful restaurant, near downtown Memphis, which focuses on serving foods that are fresh and local.
The Garden Symposium will end with a presentation by We Are Gathered floral design company owned by best friends of 12 years, Elizabeth Prine and Kayla Jobe. They specialize in artful floral installations, arrangements, and bouquets for weddings and events. Living in separate regions of Louisiana (Elizabeth in West Monroe and Kayla in Baton Rouge) allows them to create for customers all over the state. Their backgrounds in interior design, sewing, and art installations paired with an obsession for all things blooms help them to create a distinct aesthetic for each event. They work closely with their clients to bring their floral dreams to life!
Registration for the Garden Symposium is $70 plus tax. Participants can call 318-387-5281 to register over the phone, stop by the Museum store or mail in the registration form located here . Symposium participants will enjoy lunch from and be the first to choose from the plant sale.
